Salary Checker FAQs

Why is sexual orientation required for a Salary Check?

Workplaces may discriminate against persons who identify as homosexual, lesbian, bisexual, or any other preference other than heterosexual, just as they do against those who identify as women. People can work the same number of hours and perform the same kind of activity, yet their earnings may differ. While this might be attributable to other factors, sexual preferences are still a possibility. As a result, in order to determine if and to what degree such discrimination exists, the Salary Check gathers and disseminates trustworthy information with the goal of making the workplace more equitable.

What is the difference between Gross Wages and Net Wages? Which one does the Salary Check calculations represent?

Gross wages are what you earn before taxes, benefits, and other expenses are deducted from your pay. Net wages are what you receive after all of these deductions. The Salary Check calculates gross hourly wages for easy comparison. The gross monthly wage may be calculated by multiplying this figure by the number of hours worked in a month. You can enter any of the two figures, or both, and WageIndicator will do the necessary calculations and statistical analyses to determine gross earnings.

Shouldn't physical appearance, which may impact employment and promotion opportunities, be taken into account?

Researchers who investigated whether factors like attractiveness are monetarily significant discovered that the influence of attractiveness on pay and promotions is frequently exaggerated, and it is often not an important element. Personal characteristics such as creativity and confidence, as well as other aspects such as your skill set, experience, and dedication, are more important. Hence, WageIndicator does not include physical attractiveness in the Salary Check when determining salary information.

How old is the data used in the Salary Check?

The data used by WageIndicator for the Salary Check is based on information collected over the last five years.
